I just bought two used 5 gal food buckets at our food coop for 75 each. I also bought two heirloom tomato plants with flowers and baby tomatoes for $1.50 each. (I love my discount!)I have my own compost which I assume would be great for the 'maters. Can I substitute all the compost for top soil and dirt? Add peat moss? What ratio should I use? How do you keep stem and leaves from rotting from over watering? Would it be good to drill several smaller drainage holes in the bottom of bucket?------------------------------------------------------------The only real purchase I will have to make is a sturdy sheppard's hook. Before I found this wonderful website, I saw a couple of homemade planters at a retirement community in North Carolina. What a money saver!!Thanks!
